Maritime Picnic
Sugar Land Memorial Park at 15300 University Blvd.
Sugar Land, TX
On Saturday May 3rd from 1000 - 1600
The Houston Branch of the Nautical Institute is having a picnic on Saturday 3 May 2008 and would like to invite other members of the maritime community to join us. Generally this is planned as a way for the maritime community to get to know the Nautical Institute and perhaps join. But more important is the opportunity for the Nautical Institute members to have fun with their families and to meet others in the area.
If you would like the Nautical Institute to provide your family’s food and drink, then please arrange for someone in the local branch to include you in the count. The Branch will need to charge $7 per person to recover the expenses, but it might be worth it to avoid the hassle. Please understand that we will not be providing any alcoholic beverages.
Alternatively, you may wish bring your own food and drink. Be responsible for your own picnic and just join in the fun. In that case the NI will just enjoy your company. If you aren’t sure of your schedule, this might be best. There is a picnic pavilion, a restroom building and ample parking.
Games for the youngsters will be arranged if possible. If your family has a favorite game, bring it to share. There are two and a half miles of 8-foot wide granite gravel walking / jogging / biking trails. There is also a canoe launch into the Brazos River that borders the park. There are two functioning windmills that help maintain the level of water in the man-made lake. Presently there are no fish in the lake. There is ample opportunity for kite flying. You might take out a canoe (you will need your own canoe) on the lake or the river. You might also choose to operate a model boat in the lake.
It is planned that this will be distributed as widely as possible. If you have received this and know of others in the Houston Maritime Community who might be interested, please pass it on. Let’s see how many people we can get together. Let’s see how much fun we can have.
